The Venus IntraVenous Journal - February 2004

Feb 18th: (The O.C.)

I caught about 15 minutes of a show called The OC last night (Thanks to a post on the forum from one Croc-a-Chomp - - I'll get you for this!). I began to wonder what it would be like to live in the world all the creators of that show live in. Sitting down at a nice conference table with my cup o java, pulling out my briefcase and getting out my charts and notes and stuff. "Who is our intended audience?" "Well, Stan, Let me start by saying, I think we have a real 'hit' show here. Something everyone can relate to." ... and so on and so forth. Then I turned off the T.V. I forgot what the show was about. I guess it probably wasn't very good. I thought it might be cool, like a show about a guy who runs a junkyard in 'Atwood', or the life of one of those people who has to dress up like an alligator to sell celular phones on the street corner. It could have centered around a Telemarketing Group in Anaheim. The challenge is to make a show about OC and make it interesting. Making it about a bunch of rich socialites in Newport Beach? I don't get it. But for the sake of being fair, in all honesty I imagine the following statement is true. "If you liked Melrose Place, you will love The OC."

Anyhow I have a lot of work to do organizing this site here, so don't be expecting much in the way of cosmetics, at least untill I get the structure set up (pages, sections, links, and stuff). Once the frame is built I will go back in and give it a facelift.

Feb 28th: (Birthday Cards)

As some of you may, or may not know, last Sunday (Feb 22) was my birthday. Some of my friends from O.C. California (see The O.C. above) came out to Boston for a few days and we did the historical tour including many of the historical bars and clubs in the area. I'm not sure what the booze bill came to, but I hope everyone can still cover their bills out there. I had a few musical surprises as well over the weekend, including the mysterious Blaque Pearl, a jazz group named Trebec I believe, Dweezil Zappa, and the Von Bondies and the band that opened up for them (which at the moment I don't recall their name). Anyhow I will go into more detail about all of that in my music reviews later.

For now I just wanted to share my birthday cards. I got a few birthday cards that I thought would probably fit well into the OddZone, as would the friends who gave them to me. I had planned on throwing them in when I got a chance (the cards, not my friends, although...), but I am realizing it will be a while yet till I have the Oddzone ready, so I am just going to put them here.

Feb 29th: (New Holiday, and Sea Monkey Discotheque)

I just needed to put something here today, because it is leap year, and I won't get another chance for 4 more years. February 29th should be like a superholiday. You have to wait 4 years every time so it should be 4 times as good as any of the others. If anybody has any good ideas of what the Feb 29th holiday should be please email, or post them up in the forum. Once we get enough people to sign on for it, we will make it official, and we can invite the rest of the world to join in on our holiday untill enough people celebrate it that it becomes a national, and a worldwide official holiday.

Some other really cool developments have popped up since I last posted here, yesterday. My 7 year old son was sitting next to me watching me work on the website, just quietly sitting and watching. After a while, out of boredom I assumed, he got up and went off into the other room. When I was ready to take a break, I went out to see what he was up to, and he had some drawings he was working on. They were titled 'Odd Zone' and were filled with all sorts of Odd Zone worthy material. Apparantly he had taken notice of the Odd Zone and liked the name, but more importantly he understood the concept intuitively. So now we have an additional artist on board, and he is definitely an original.

Last night he invited me to see my first Sea Monkey Discotheque. He had taken his headphones, and taped them to the outside of the Sea Monkey Tank, so that they were pressed up against the glass - speakers facing in. He turned on the music, turned off the lights, and used his flashlight to provide the Sea Monkeys with a light show while they were dancing. He came up with the idea because he felt bad that they really didn't have much to do in there. They really did boogie down too!!!

The Venus IntraVenous Journal - March 2004

March 4th: (Spring?)

Spring?
The end of winter always = Venus falling apart.
Venus looks like caveman with bloodshot eyes.
Venus wants to wear T-shirt and go outside and ride bicycle, or drive around with windows rolled down.
Venus wants fresh air.
Nice warm day makes Venus Happy.
Spring is Here?
No, Probably cruel joke just before big March Blizzard.

March 7th: (venus and his cane)

Well, I sprained my ankle pretty severely the other day playing volleyball. I jumped up to spike it, but the set was a little bit behind me so I had to reach back and twist a little to get it, which put me in an odd position, and I came down on one foot and twisting and my ankle went 'pop'. It was pretty loud actually, more of a 'KaPOW!!!'. When I hit the floor, I thought it must be broken, but fate smiled on me and said 'get up you idiot, you are fine'.

I wasn't really fine, the pain was rather unpleasant, but I was able to walk on it, untill the next day, at which point I had to percure a cane so that I could make it to the Dresden Dolls, World Inferno show that evening. Fortunately, the cast of characters at the show was spicy enough that (cane man) blended right in. We had to stand for quite a while and I was slightly distracted from the show because of the pain that would instantly shoot up my leg every time I accidentally moved my foot the wrong way. Anyhow after the first couple opening bands, a perch opened up on a ledge for us to sit on, and that was very good. The show was grade A and the venue was the perfect setting for an underground punk show. I will have a full review up in the Maze(Boston Section) in the next day or two.

The next day, I somehow wound up walking all around Harvard Square (with the cane), and then doing an epic food shopping event (using the cart as my cane). Today I woke up and my hand was sore, it took me a little bit to figure out why.... (the cane!!!). So what better thing to do with a sprained ankle and now a sore hand then construction. Yup, hammering, sawing, drilling holes in concrete, carrying drywall and stacks of wood, WOOHOO!!! My foot is turning into a big giant purple bruise, perhaps I should try to rest it tommorrow. Nah, I think I'll go skateboarding instead.

March 8th: (Re:Spring?)

Well, the March Blizzard is here. That didn't take too long did it!

March 10th: (ankle update)

Update on the ankle, it's broken. It wasn't looking too pretty, so my mother and my girlfriend finally convinced me to go get it looked at. I really didn't like the idea of going to the hospital because I hate sitting around filling out paperwork, and worrying about how much the bill is going to be. I signed up for MassHealth (we will see how that goes), and got some x-rays and stuff. It's just a small piece broken off the end of my tibula, the part that juts out, unfortunately it is accomponied by a bad sprain as well. They gave me a cool 'Darth Vader' model brace that I have to wear, and I am supposed to wait 4-6 weeks before I can be active on it again, and for any sort of activity more strenuous than walking I am supposed to wear the brace for the next 3-6 months depending on how physical therapy goes.

March 23rd: (21 moves)

We are moving to Arlington next month. It is a good school district for my son and we hope to be able to settle in for a little while. I can't even really guess how many times I have moved but I will give it a shot right now,

ok here we go

1. Monrovia Ca. Birthplace
2. Placentia Ca. (moved when I was 7)
3. Brea Ca. (when I was about 12 or 13 stayed with Dad in Brea for a little bit)
4. Back to Mom's
5. Seville St. Placentia (Dad got house, moved in at about age 15)
6. Yorba Linda Ca.
7. San Clemente Ca. (Ave. Palizada)
8. Dana Point Ca. (Straight Ahead Halfway House)
9. Yorba Linda Ca.
10. Somerville Ma. (Mom moved to Boston, we stayed at my Aunt's for the summer)
11. San Antonio Tx. (it took my girlfriend and I 4 months to drive across the country, 2 of them were spent in San Antonio where I got a job and we got on food stamps, so in a way I guess we lived there in my 67 Dodge Van, 'it had a stove and sink')
12. Seville St. Placentia (back to Dad's)
13. San Clemente Ca. (Ave. Victoria)
14. Fullerton Ca.
15. Buena Park (3 months in a weekly rental motel place with our bass player Marcos)
16. Utica NY. (it's a long story but trust me, I lived there.)
17. New Hartford NY.
18. Yorkville NY. (this place was actually in yorkville, but my mail said utica. If you used the correct yorkville mailing address, my mail would be delayed a couple weeks.)
19. Somerville MA.
20. Medford MA.
21. Arlington MA.

That pretty much sums it up I guess. I know I missed a couple, I just thought of a stint Kelly and I spent in Villa Park. (it was only a couple months, but there are a few of these in there)

hmm... interesting. averages out to about 14 moves in the last 14 years.

Every now and then, I think I might write an autobiography. Then I realize, I probably won't be able to do it untill everyone I know is dead. Then who would read it. Who knows, maybe I would. I just might be that demented.

The Venus IntraVenous Journal - April 2004

April 1st: (april fools)

I think my laptop just played an April Fools joke on me. I was just entering the April 1st entry in my journal, and it just shut down on me for no reason. I don't know. Seems to be doing o.k. now I guess. Oh well, you got me. I am so tired I am not entirely sure that it happened. But I am like 90% sure, well at least 85%. Anyhow I guess I am not in the mood to go into my insomnia stuff right now, some other time. I found a cool site when I was doing some research for more oddzone stuff. Oddly enough it was called Odd Todd. There is also another oddzone out there too, but it isn't nearly as odd as our oddzone is going to be. Odd Todd on the other hand had some pretty odd stuff, and aparantly a lot of time on his hands because he had a ton of content. I happened to catch his Passion of Christ review, and was pleased to see it was quite similar to mine. I liked the way he put it though when he said 'Jesus couldn't get a word in edgewise'. I will definitely be putting a link to this site in the oddzone, which will be going under the knife the next couple of days as I have had some new Ideas about how I want to set it up. Squarepusher tickets sold out, and that sucks because I went to get them one day and they were there but I didn't have enough money in my account, so I asked my girlfriend to get them the next day and they were sold out. I was short $3.50. In other words if I had put $10 of gas in my car last weekend instead of $20 I would be going to the show. Bleh!

You take the good, You take the bad, you take them both and there you have the Facts of Life. - - I will be adding themesong philosophies to the Philoddsophy section of the oddzone in the next couple days. Keep an eye out it should be odd, funny, and educational all in one, can't beat that.
